The Athens County Board of County Commissioners passed a resolution Tuesday to authorize construction of an elevation for the bike path that extends over Hocking River to connect with Chauncey.
The Regional County Planner Jessie Powers said that if the path is not elevated by changing the schematic designs, then flooding might raise maintenance issues on the path.
Triad Engineer Lee McCoy said that while design elements can be added to make sure there is no structural damage to the bike path, the biggest hindrance to the elevation will be the financial costs associated with the elevation, which are mostly handled by the Ohio Department of Transportation.
In other business, the commissioners approved the motion for March to become the Developmental Disability Awareness Month.
