Hockey: Amid winter storm, Bobcats cancel Saturday's home game against Pitt

Coach Sean Hogan announced that the Bobcats’ game against Pitt on Saturday night has been cancelled.

In a press release Friday afternoon, Hogan said that “severe winter weather and dangerous travel conditions” were the cause of the cancellation.

Friday’s game against the Panthers is still schedule and puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. in Bird Arena.

“We focus on what we can control and that is the game tonight (Friday),“ Hogan said.

While the players on each team certainly want to play both games in the series, they understand the reasoning behind the cancellation.

“We take it one game at a time and we have to work twice as hard tonight to make up for tomorrow being cancelled,“ junior forward Tyler Harkins said. “(I’m) happy we at least get one game at Bird this weekend.”

This isn’t the first of Ohio’s games to be cancelled because of inclement weather. Its games against No. 1 Lindenwood on Jan. 11 and 12 were cancelled because a severe winter storm left over 20 inches of snow near Lindenwood’s campus.

Some of Ohio’s skaters took to Twitter to discuss the winter weather including Harkins and senior Gabe Lampron.

“I think it comes down to having fun with an unfavorable situation,“ Harkins said. “You gotta make the most out of everything and with Gabe and I, we always try to have some fun.”

Neither the Lindenwood series nor the second game against Pitt will be reschedule because of time constraints.
