On Monday, the world was shocked by the death of Stan Lee, the creator of many of the beloved Marvel Comics. Lee helped create a universe that millions of people escaped to. His death means there will also be very few of his iconic cameos remaining. Here’s a list of Lee’s cameos throughout the Marvel movies.
Iron Man (2008)
In the first Iron Man movie, Lee was at the same gala as Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Stark mistakes him for Hugh Hefner because he was with three girls.
The Incredible Hulk (2008)
Lee’s cameo was a random citizen who accidentally had a drink that had some of Bruce Banner’s (Edward Norton)’s blood in it. It gave him a bit of a pep in his step.
Iron Man 2 (2010)
For the second Iron Man movie, Lee was mistaken again for someone else by Stark. Lee was wearing suspenders, a red shirt, and a black and purple tie, and was mistaken as Larry King.
Thor (2011)
Lee was one of the many people trying to pick up Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir, with his truck. When the bed of his truck rips off in the attempt, Lee appears as the driver asking if it worked.
Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)
In the first Captain America movie, Lee’s cameo was that of a World War II general who thought another actor was Captain America instead of Chris Evans. Lee comments, saying, “I thought he’d be taller.”
The Avengers (2012)
In The Avengers, Lee’s character was interviewed about the superhero team and how they saved Manhattan. He told the interviewer, “Superheroes in New York? Give me a break.”
Iron Man 3 (2013)
For the third Iron Man movie, Lee was a beauty pageant judge on TV who was very eager to give a certain contestant a perfect score.
Thor: The Dark World (2013)
Lee’s cameo in this movie was that of a mental ward patient who loans his shoe to an astrophysicist, Erik Selvig, for a demonstration. After Selvig finishes his demonstration and asks if anyone has any questions, Lee asked if he could get his shoe back.
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)
For the second Captain America movie, Lee plays a guard at the Smithsonian Institution. Lee said, “Oh man, I am so fired,” after finding out that Captain America stole back his own WWII uniform.
Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)
In this movie, Lee’s cameo was simply him having a conversation with a much younger woman. After Rocket (Bradley Cooper) saw him through a scanning device, he pegged Lee as something that was wrong with the plant Xandar.
Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)
Lee played a WWII veteran who went to the Avengers’ victory party only to get drunk after having a shot of Asgardian liquor from Thor. He ended up being carried out of the party, muttering his catchphrase, "Excelsior."
Ant-Man (2015)
In Ant-Man, Lee is a bartender that encourages a character to go talk to a “crazy, stupid, fine” woman at a table close to the bar.
Captain America: Civil War (2016)
Lee was a FedEx postman in this Captain America movie. He delivered a package from Steve Rogers to Tony Stark, but pronounced Stark’s name as “Tony Stank.”
Doctor Strange (2016)
In this movie, Lee is on a bus reading Aldous Huxley’s The Doors of Perception and laughing at what he is reading, while remaining completely oblivious to the battle happening just outside.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)
Lee’s cameo is that of an astronaut telling a story that mentions how he was a deliveryman at one point, referencing Captain America: Civil War.
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)
In the new Spider-Man movie, Lee’s cameo is the annoyed neighbor, Gary, who saw Spider-Man mistakenly trap a person getting into his own car and said, "Don't make me come down there, you punk!”
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Lee is a servant to the Grandmaster on the planet Sakaar who ends up cutting Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth)’s hair.
Black Panther (2018)
While in South Korea at a casino, Lee steals T’Challa’s unclaimed chips when he becomes distracted.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Lee is a bus driver for Peter Parker in Avengers: Infinity War. When all of the students freak out because of the spaceship arriving on Earth, Lee simple asks, “What's the matter with you kids? You never seen a spaceship before?”
Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)
In this Ant-Man movie, Lee’s car was shrunk by the Wasp. He says, “Well, the '60s were fun, but now I'm paying for it."
