Five fall dates to take your significant other on in Athens County

Fall is finally in the air, which means love is in the air as well. There’s just something about that crisp, autumn breeze, the leaves changing colors and a hot cup of apple cider that gets people in a lovey-dovey mood. Athens County has so much fall beauty, making it the perfect place for those cute fall dates one would pull straight from Pinterest. Here are five dates to take a sweetheart to in Athens County:

Hiking

Ohio University is located in the beautiful rolling hills of Southeastern Ohio, meaning we’re surrounded by nature that holds many hiking trails all over the area. Hiking is great during the fall because you’re immersed in thick forests of all different shades of browns, reds and yellows. As you and your significant other trek through winding trails, leaves crunching beneath your feet, enjoy the amazing views at the top of Bong Hill or overlook the town of Athens at Sells Park.

Haunted corn maze

This date requires car transportation, but if you’re looking for a scary date this spooky season, Field of Screams at Murphy’s Farm is the place to go. Located in Coolville, Field of Screams has more than 2 miles of haunted fun. Visitors can explore the haunted woods and corn maze with some “scary-oke” in case someone is in need of some light-hearted, spooky moments.

Athens Farmers Market

The Athens Farmers Market happens every Wednesday and Saturday all year at 1000 E. State St. This time of year, you’ll find all the fall-favorites, from jams and jellies to bundles of apples. It’s something to check out in the late-morning hours where one could find pumpkins and gourds to decorate a dorm with, or buy some apples for an afternoon of homemade apple cider making with your sweetheart.

Pumpkin picking

A classic trip to the pumpkin patch is an obligatory date during this time of year. One of the nearest patches in Athens County is Libby’s Pumpkin Patch, located in Albany. Picking the perfect pumpkin with your significant other is such a fun process, especially when you go home and carve them together afterward.

Coffee date

As the weather gets chillier, it’s only right to grab a hot drink from Court Street Coffee, 67 S. Court St., or Donkey Coffee, 17 W. Washington St., to really get into the fall season. This one might seem generic, but supporting your local businesses while also going on a date sounds like a pretty good combination. Coffee dates are a great way to get to know one another, and taking a stroll through College Green with a coffee in one hand and your date’s hand in the other is a match made in heaven.
