Britain’s oldest
Grace Jones, the oldest person in Britain at 112, credits her endurance down to one ritual: a small glass of whiskey every evening.
Jones said she has been following the evening tradition since she turned 50 and she feels as young as 60, according to MSN.
“Keep up with the whiskey Grace, it’s good for your heart,” her doctor even said.
It was only three years before Jones was born that the Wright Brothers had their Kitty Hawk flights. She has seen both world wars and the development of space travel. To put it in perspective, she was born only five years after Queen Victoria died.
“We will be here next year as well,” Jones said talking about her 113th birthday.
Canine mayor
The small town of Idyllwild, California, voted in a new mayor: Maximus Mighty Dog Mueller II, according to ABC13 Houston. What makes this special is that Mayor Max is a dog.
In 2012, Max’s uncle was elected to be the first mayor of his town. He beat out 14 other dogs and two cats. Though Max is mayor, he does not hold any power; it is a symbolic position.
The town decided to elect their first mayor in 2012, but humans were not permitted to run. Residents had to pay $1 per vote, and they were encouraged to vote many times. The money from the election went to the animal rescue services.
Max’s owner and Chief of Staff Phyllis Mueller explained Max’s mission is to “make the world a better place by conveying unconditional love and doing many good deeds for others.”
Max also has a group of supervisors that are all golden retrievers. They attend fundraisers and other events.
Cat locates drugs
On Monday morning, a citizen from the suburb of St. Pauls, Bristol, United Kingdom, found their cat sleeping with a shopping bag of what is suspected to be class-A drugs.
Some reports suspected that the drugs were cocaine and heroin, but as of Monday, the police department had not analyzed the substances, according to Sky News.
That led the Avon and Somerset Police Department to tweet, “Forget police dogs, we should start training up cats.”
Domino’s Tattoos
The Russian branch of Domino’s Pizza announced it would give away 100 pizzas per year for 100 years to customers who would get tattoos of the company’s logo, according to Metro News.
The company did not expect so many people to participate in the “Domino’s forever” campaign. Soon after Domino’s released the promotion, the company had to change it to only include the first 350 people to send in photos.
The campaign was supposed to last from August 31 to October 31, but it had to cut the deal short in fear of so much money being lost.
The company also did not originally clarify the details of the tattoo. They later described the tattoo had to be on a visible part of the body, it had to be at least 2 cm long, and could be black and white or in color. The lack of communication disqualified at least one participant who had received his on his chest.
Domino’s released an update on their Facebook page reading, “Friends, we already have 350 participants!”
