City Council: Members to vote on tax levies

Athens City Council members will discuss issues regarding law enforcement, construction, family planning programs and the budget at Tuesday night’s meeting.

Members will vote on an ordinance allowing Mayor Steve Patterson to enter a mutual aid agreement between the City of Athens and Hocking College for law enforcement assistance and an ordinance affirming his agreement with the Ohio Department of Transportation for sign replacements on State Route 682 and U.S. State Routes 33 and 50. They will also vote on an ordinance on the wages and working conditions of Athens Police Department.

Additionally, members will hear a one-reading resolution for the City of Athens to oppose proposed changes in federal regulations that govern the Title X national family planning program and voice support for access to all legal family planning services and counseling.

For first reading, City Council members will discuss an ordinance to authorize construction for the Richland Bridge of Coates Run project and for second reading, they will discuss designating the Stewart MacDonald building as a local historic place.

For third reading, members will hear a resolution to accept the amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission. That would authorize necessary tax levies, according to the City Council agenda.

The meeting will be held on the third floor of the city building at 7 p.m.
