Athens City Council members convened for a special session Wednesday morning in order to pass an ordinance dealing with contract negotiations between the Fraternal Order of Police, the Ohio Labor Council and the city.
The ordinance, which must go into effect by tomorrow, was based on fact finding recommendations by the State Employment Relations Board. The ordinance passed unanimously after Councilman Jeff Risner, D-2nd Ward, read the ordinance to council members.
According to the ordinance, unresolved contract negotiation issues between the City of Athens, the Fraternal Order of Police and the Ohio Labor Council were presented to the appointed fact finder on April 22nd. The three parties were trying to reach an agreement on wages, hours and other employment terms.
