Good morning,
The Doomsday Clock is officially two minutes till midnight as of yesterday.
As threats of climate change and nuclear war have been looming over the previous year, the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists decided to move the clock closer to midnight.
“In 2017, world leaders failed to respond effectively to the looming threats of nuclear war and climate change, making the world security situation more dangerous than it was a year ago — and as dangerous as it has been since World War II,” said in a statement explaining why the clock was moved.
The last time the clock was this close to midnight was in 1953 when the first hydrogen bomb was tested.
