What's coming to Netflix in July: 'E.T.,' 'Titanic' and more

Movie buffs, get excited, because there's no short supply of fantastic films coming to Netflix this month. From blockbuster franchise films to small independent ones, there are tons of options coming, guaranteed to keep any film fanatic satisfied.

July 1

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: The heartwarming tale of a young boy who befriends an alien that many of us remember from our childhood — E.T requires no explanation. Its Netflix debut is exciting for many who haven’t seen the film since they were kids, and it’s an opportunity to revisit the tale of Elliot, E.T and Reese's Pieces.

Titanic: The film of a generation, you’re hard-pressed to find someone who hasn’t seen or at least heard of Titanic. An iconic tragic love story, you can never watch this movie enough.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas: Do you want to cry? Are you sure? If you’re sure, this movie is for you. The story of two unlikely friends, a young Jewish inmate in a concentration camp and the son of a Nazi leader. Despite the sad nature of the film, there’s a type of beauty: The concept that kids don’t see race or religion — they see people. Their parents could be bitter enemies, but kids don’t think like that, and more people should be like kids. The film’s powerful conclusion will haunt you long after you finish watching it.

The Land Before Time: Yet another film many of us know well, this childhood classic will soon be available to stream on Netflix. The adventure of an orphaned dinosaur and his friends is sure to delight whether it’s your first time seeing it or your seventh.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story: The latest installment in the Star Wars franchise, Rogue One is the film I’m most looking forward to seeing on Netflix. With many franchises, after the initial sequence of films is finished, the production companies continue to release films purely for profit, paying no mind to the content. With Rogue One, my expectations were low because of this very reason, but I was pleasantly surprised. The story is compelling and really brings the viewer into the character’s world. Although the film fits in with the timeline of the original Star Wars trilogy, the film works as a standalone as well, so if you haven’t seen any of the series' other movies, don’t let that stop you from giving Rogue One a watch.
