Hockey: 2017-18 schedule released for Ohio’s 60th season

This past Thursday, coach Sean Hogan released Ohio’s game schedule for its 60th season as a program.

Ohio will kick off the year with its annual green and white game in mid-September at Bird Arena. The scrimmage will also host an event titled “Skate with the ‘Cats,” a free event in which fans and patrons alike have the opportunity to skate with the team.

The Bobcats' regular season starts in Athens when John Carroll comes to town toward the end of September.

The September month is highlighted by the chance to travel to Annapolis, Maryland, when Ohio will meet the U.S. Naval Academy on the ice.

Two schools, the University of Nevada Las Vegas and Stony Brook University will play their first games against Ohio in Bird Arena.

As per usual, Ohio will play host to a few of its Central States Collegiate Hockey League opponents starting with Lindenwood University on Nov. 17-18 in Bird Arena. The Bobcats also play host to other CSCHL opponents in Robert Morris, Iowa State and Illinois.

Ohio kicks off its conference play on the road however, as they face against Illinois on Nov. 10-11. The Bobcats also travel to Robert Morris, Lindenwood and Iowa State.

Perhaps the most exciting part of the Bobcats schedule this year is the opportunity to host the CSCHL Playoffs this season. First round games take place on Friday, Feb. 23, with semi-finals on Saturday and the CSCHL Championship game on Sunday.

Once again the American Collegiate Hockey Association Playoffs will be hosted in Columbus, Ohio, taking play March 9-11.

Last season, Ohio made it all the way through to the championship game of the ACHA Tournament before a 3-0 loss against Central Oklahoma.
