Ohio's Spartak Chino throws Old Dominion University’s Austin Eads on the mat during a match Sunday at the Convocation Center. Ohio won 25-13 for its fifth straight victory.

Wrestling: Parker seals win Bobcats at Clarion

With a one-point lead heading into the final match of the night, redshirt sophomore Zach Parker had one thing left: preserve the win, and he did.

Ohio beat Clarion 21-17 on Friday night in Clarion, Pennsylvania, but it was Parker that provided the final bout to win.

In the first period of the 285-pound heavyweight match, Parker put up six points by earning three takedowns. Leading 6-3, Parker had one last takedown to put that match out of reach and give the Bobcats the win, 21-17.

The rest of the night, however, wasn’t as pretty.

The Bobcats started poorly when sophomore Shakur Laney (125 lbs) lost by decision. But momentum changed soon after when Cameron Kelly (133 lbs) pinned his opponent.

A pattern developed as Ohio dropped the next two matches and then proceeded to win the next two setting up for the 197 lbs. match that could’ve sealed the win.

This however, was not the case, as redshirt sophomore Devin King lost. With a 18-17 score heading into the final match of the night and a six-year win streak on the line, Parker made it a seven-year win streak.

Ohio (7-5, 4-3 Mid-American Conference), comes home to prepare for its last conference dual of the season against Old Dominion next Saturday.
