Ohio split a weekend series against Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, which pushed the Bobcats overall record to 5-3. A marathon 13 inning game where the Bobcats (5-3) eked out a 2-1 victory over the Cougars sealed the weekend split.
The first game of the series saw starting pitcher Gerry Salisbury twirl a gem in a six-inning appearance, but ultimately OU lost 2-1. The left-hander allowed just three hits and one earned run in his start.
The only run of the game came from Spencer Ibarra, who hit a solo home run in the sixth inning.
On Saturday, the Bobcats and the Cougars competed in a doubleheader, where each team took home a victory.
Ohio won the first game of the doubleheader, 6-4, as the backend combination of Tom Colletti and Jake Roehn shut down the Cougars. The two combined for three shutdown innings with no hits and five strikeouts. Five Bobcats had multiple hits, with Bourn knocking in two RBIs.
The Bobcats dropped the second game of the doubleheader, 7-4. The Cougars scored five runs off Cory Blessing and Matt Mikolajczak as the Bobcats offense was stifled by SIUE starter Danny Ehrsam.
In the final game of the weekend on Sunday afternoon, outfielder Evan Bourn hit a game-winning sacrifice fly to score Michael Klein in extra innings. The Bobcats went 12 innings without a run, as the only other run scored by them was a first inning RBI single by Rudy Rott.
Jake Roehn earned the win with Mikolajczak getting the save.
The Bobcats will stay in Emerson, Georgia as they’ll play Alabama State on Tuesday.
