Baseball: Klein earns MAC East Player of the Week honors

Michael Klein won the MAC East Division's first Player of the Week honors after posting impressive numbers both at the plate and on the mound in Ohio's opening weekend.

The redshirt junior served as the Bobcats' designated hitter in all four of the team's opening slate of games and went 6-for-15 at the plate and drove in five total runs on the weekend.

Klein also slammed Ohio's first pair of home runs this season, the first being a three-run shot against La Salle in the Friday night season opener. The Bobcats went on to win 10-2. He would then go on to hit a solo shot the following day in Ohio's 14-5 rout, also against La Salle.

Klein also played a huge role in Sunday's shutout victory against Butler, as the right-hander threw four scoreless innings while striking out five in his first start in the new season.

Klein's contributions could go a long way in how far Ohio goes this season, as the departure of John Adryan left a missing power bat in the lineup, while the starting rotation struggled to find consistency last season.

With Klein, the Bobcats may have someone who can fill both of those needs.

Ohio (3-1) will be back in action this weekend when they play four games against Southern Illinois (2-2) in Emerson, Ga. from Feb. 24-26.
