Feminists Elaborate: Why is this up for debate?

Refuse to normalize behavior that makes sexual assault the survivors’ fault. Refuse to shake off abusive language as “locker room talk.” Refuse to allow people in power to further sexist, misogynistic and derogatory rhetoric as the standard medium of communication. Call out hurtful behavior. Stand up for your pals of intersectional identities. Be clear in voicing your beliefs and boundaries. Think critically, stand firmly and push on.

Why Is This Up For Debate?

“What were you wearing?”

“My favorite T-shirt.”

“Fishnets.”

“Fuzzy socks.”

“Did you kiss back?”

“Only for a second.”

“No, it was too forceful.”

“Yes.”

“How many drinks did you have?”

“I wasn’t at a bar.”

“Maybe three. Up to six.”

“I was the DD. I didn’t drink.”

“How many extracurricular activities do you participate in?”

“Two. I’m a part of a pre-law fraternity and I’m in a yoga club.”

“One. But I’m taking eighteen credit hours a semester.”

“I don’t participate in extracurriculars.”

“What is your current GPA?”

“2.0”

“3.3”

“4.0”

“What is your family’s net income per year?”

"$30,000.”

“Under $14,000.”

“Not sure. But I know it’s over six figures.”

“How many sexual partners have you had?”

“12.”

“None.”

“Three.”

“How many miniskirts do you own?"

“I love miniskirts. I have 17.”

“I don’t like miniskirts. They’re not comfortable.”

“Two or three.”

“Did you actually say no? Out loud?”

“No, but their hand was over my mouth.”

“I tried, but I don’t think they heard me.”

“Yes. Four times.”

“You were in a relationship previously though, right?”

“I mean, I knew them in high school.”

“No. I’d never met them.”

“Yeah, we were together for two years.”

“Do you have a history of mental illness? Personally or in your family?”

“Yeah, my mom is bipolar.”

“Not that I know of.”

“Yeah, I was just diagnosed with PTSD.”

“Are you religious?”

“Yeah, I practice Islam.”

“No, I identify as an atheist.”

“Yeah, I even went through the Catholic school system.”

“Did you deserve it?”
