Ohio continued its undefeated start to Mid-American Conference play with a 2-1 victory over Ball State (6-8, 1-2 MAC) in Muncie, Indiana on Thursday afternoon.
In the sixth minute, the Bobcats (6-7, 3-0 MAC) took the lead with leading scorer Kendall Ballard scoring the first of two goals of the game.
With 19 seconds left in the first half, Ohio had a penalty corner that resulted in a penalty stroke for Ohio after Ballard’s shot was blocked. Ballard stepped up and shot the ball past the Ball State goalie for her second of the game and twelfth of the season.
The Cardinals were able to convert for the only time in the 54th minute with Carley Shannon netting her second goal of the season.
The Cardinals outshot the Bobcats 15-3 but only had five shots on goal, only one of which reached the back of the net as Bobcat goalie Alex Pennington stopped four of them.
With the win, Ohio moved to 3-0 in conference play halfway through and remains tied in first place with fellow undefeated teams Kent State and Miami.
Ohio plays their second consecutive road game this Sunday at noon against Longwood (6-8, 0-3 MAC) in Farmville, Virginia.
