Ohio hit the road this weekend to face Ohio Dominican and Northern Kentucky at the Ohio State Charity Classic in Columbus on Saturday.
They finished the road trip with a clean sweep of both teams, as the Bobcats beat Northern Kentucky 5-3 and earned a shutout against Ohio Dominican 3-0.
Ohio wasted no time getting on the board against Ohio Dominican in the finale Saturday, after a two-run homer gave the Bobcats a 2-0 lead in the first.
It was all the Bobcats would need.
Sophomore Dallas Messenger scored off a ground ball hit by Deanna Cole to put the Bobcats up 3-0 in the second inning, which ended the scoring in just the second inning.
The starting pitcher, junior Danielle Steine, finished off the shutout with one hit, one walk and eight strikeouts.
Desirae Villanueva, a freshman who already has high expectations, started on the mound against Northern Kentucky, the first matchup of the day.
She pitched 4 2/3 innings and finished the game with two swinging strikeouts, one hit-by-pitch and one walk. Villanueva left the game tied at three.
Sophomore Morgan Geno took over for Villanueva at the top of the fifth inning and allowed no runs scored to finish the game.
Wren finished out the scoring to make it a 5-3 final.
This was the first time the Bobcats got a chance to play together as a team, and for a beginning, it seemed to be a success.
