Greg Windham was named the Bobcats’ starting quarterback for the opener against Texas State on September 3, coach Frank Solich announced Friday afternoon.
Windham was the clear-cut choice after JD Sprague left the team earlier this week due to a rib injury.
Solich made the announcement after the team's final practice of Fall Camp, a walkthrough on Friday afternoon.
Windham was the starting quarterback throughout the spring, as Sprague was still recovering from his injury, which affected blood flow from his rib and through his shoulder.
Although Windham has zero career starts, he appeared in 11 games for the Bobcats last season, completing 19 passes on 40 attempts. He threw one touchdown and four interceptions in his playing time.
He'll likely play unopposed for his starting job, as Quinton Maxwell and Joey Duckworth, Windham's backups, have not seen one snap of college action thus far.
Windham will be helped out by his strong running back corps, as well as his big receivers Sebastian Smith and Jordan Reid.
But for now, all eyes are on Windham.
