After Judy Piercy served as OU’s ombudsperson for three years, she is retiring July 1.

Judy Piercy’s time as an Ohio University Bobcat is winding down.

After serving as OU’s ombudsperson for three years, she is retiring July 1.

The ombudsperson is a confidential and neutral resource for people to turn to when they have a conflict or concern internal to OU.

“My role is to assist in exploring the concern, reviewing options for mitigating the problem, and assist in helping with the resolution,” Piercy said in an email. “This is carried out by talking with individuals either in person, over the phone, or my e-mail.”

As ombudsperson, Piercy said she enjoyed helping people navigate through their concerns and finding solutions.

The university is currently reviewing the 28 applicants to the position, OU Spokesman Dan Pittman said.

The job was posted to ohiouniversityjobs.com on April 25, and the deadline to apply was May 15. Applicants must have at least a master's degree and a minimum three years of related work and management experience, according to the job description.

Piercy’s salary for the 2015-16 academic year was $99,270, according to OU’s payroll records.

In total, Piercy worked at OU for 27 years serving as the assistant director and director of Residence Life in addition to being the director of University Judiciaries, which is now the Office of Community Standards.

“The best part of being at OU has been working with extraordinary students and colleagues and participating in a university community that truly wants to support student success,” Piercy said in an email.

Looking ahead to retirement, she said “(her) plan is to have no plans … and let the next journey unfold.”
