Women's golf: Bobcats set records at MAC Championships

Ohio sets multiple records on its way to a third place finish at MAC Championships.

Two record setting performances helped the Bobcats finish third as a team this past weekend at the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championships.

Saturday, freshman Emily Hughes set a new program record for lowest round ever recorded at the MAC Tournament. Hughes shot a three-under-par 69 on her way to finishing tied for fourth place for the tournament with a three-day total of 216 (E).

The record Hughes set Saturday didn’t last long, however. Sunday, junior Hailey Hrynewich broke Hughes’ record when she shot a career-low 67 (-5) to go with her first two round scores of 73 (+1) and 74 (+2) give her a three-day total of 214 (-2).

Hrynewich finished in third place overall after coming in to the tournament as the 10th best golfer in the MAC.

Hughes and Hrynewich both received honors as part of the All Tournament team and 2016 marks the first time two Ohio golfers finished in the top five at the MAC Tournament since 1999.

As a team, Ohio set a program record, as well. Their three-day score of 882 is the lowest weekend total for the Bobcats in team history.

Aside from the record setting, three other golfers played over the weekend as well for Ohio.

Angela Codian finished her Ohio golfing career with a 15th place finish after shooting two 77s and a 71. Her three-day score was 225 (+9).

Another senior finishing her career with the Bobcats was Lauren McKinzie, who shot a three-day score of 238 (+22) to finish tied for 43rd.

Lily Pendy shot a 229 (+13) over the weekend to finish tied for 27th.

Kent State won the 2016 MAC Championships with a score of 868.
