Track and Field: Ohio wins the All-Ohio Track and Field Championship

Ohio puts up 244 points and wins All-Ohio Track and Field Championship.

Ohio won the All-Ohio Track and Field Championship Saturday at Goldsberry Track with 244 points and nine first-place finishes.

Through cold and windy conditions, and at times snow, Ohio was able to beat Mid-American Conference rival Akron, which finished third with 103.50 points. Ohio also defeated Division II Ashland, a team that consistently competes for a national championship. Dayton and Findlay finished out the top five.

Ohio had the top three finishers in the 5,000-meter run, with Alyssa Atkinson winning the event at 17:55.24. Krista Roehlig was second at 18:04.54 and Stephanie Loshbough was third at 18:08.36.

“It was especially nice to win at home,” coach Clay Calkins said. “We had some good quality teams in this weekend. I think the conversation we had with our team this weekend was to go in and compete and they accomplished that.”

The Bobcats won the 4x400 relay, earning 10 points with a time of 4:01.99 and performances from Hayley Stegemiller, Kaitlyn Logan, Erin Stewart and Gracie Huffman.

The 4x100 meter relay team of Callyn Voase, Olivia Mayfield, Kristin Winkel and Tajah Smith also won with a time of 49.47.

Jordan Porter finished second in the shot put, throwing 14.39 meters and Donyelle Brown finished in sixth, throwing the shot put 13.31 meters.

“I think it was a plus having the tournament here,” Calkins said. “They can stay on a regular schedule with their sleep and dietary needs. Having been at home these past two weeks has been great.”

Ohio’s Taylor Smith finished in second after a jump off with eventual winner Rebecca Koval of Ashland in the high jump event at 1.65 meters. Emma Ryan was fourth in the discus throw, throwing 43.11 meters.

Tessa Weigand finished third at 4:48.02 and Emily Deering took fourth at 4:48.21 in the 1,500-meter run.

Winkel won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.02 while Chanda Chuckler was third at 14.29.

Stegmiller won the 800-meter run in 2:17.85 while Logan finished second at 2:18.84.

Ohio returns to the track at the Charlotte Invitational in Charlotte on April 15-16.

“It’s going to be hard to win the MAC Title,” Calkins said. “There is no special plays in our sport, it’s all heads up competition. It is a descending order list; you can always see who is at the top. Our goal is to be in the top half of the conference and they’re going to have to just keep on stepping up.”
