Query a Queer: What do pink triangles represent; what is it like being in the closet?

LGBT Center staff members answer your questions. Email questions related to the LGBT community to lgbt@ohio.edu.

Q: What does the pink triangle mean?

Camry Carey: The Nazi's put the pink triangle badge on people in concentration camps who identified as queer or were seen to be queer.

Q: What is it like to be “in the closet”?

Stefan Koob: Being "in the closet" is different for everyone. Generally, it comes with feelings of hiding something, depending on one’s reason for choosing to stay in the closet. Someone might choose to stay closeted for many reasons, whether that be family, school, work or something else. Someone might feel they would be in danger if they do choose to come out, and that is why some people choose to remain closeted.
