Ohio University students can dance through the night this Saturday at BocaThon and help raise money for charity.

BobcaThon is a year-long fundraiser that raises money for the Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio.

“I’ve seen lots of advertisements for it, I’ve had friends who’ve done it and it definitely sounds like a good time,” Rose Troyer, who graduated with a degree in Journalism from OU last semester, said.

Ty Tracy, a volunteer MC for the event, believes it is a worthwhile cause that does a lot of good for the community.

“BobcaThon is the greatest day of the year in my opinion," Tracy said. "I'm most excited to hear families tell their stories about the impact the Ronald McDonald House has made on their families."

This year’s event has the theme Dance of the Decades. Photos, videos, and music pertaining a different decade will be presented within each hour.

Last year, the organization was able to raise $18,173 and they have already surpassed that number this year with $28,905 raised so far.

Each registered dancer is responsible for raising at least $100. The money mostly stems from donations by family and friends but local businesses also donate money and in-kind donations, such as snacks and dinner, Meg Sanders, president of BobcaThon Dance Marathon, said.

This year's marathon is seeing a growing number of participants with over 300 dancers registered, compared to last years 100 dancers.

“The BobcaThon teams is thrilled about the growth in dancers in just one year,” Sanders said.

Sanders cites their efforts of reaching out to student organizations such as Sorority and Fraternity life, PRSSA, Student Alumni Board and Student Senate.

“There are so few events on campus that bring students together for one common goal. I am so excited that BobcaThon is able to do just that, as well as raise money for a fantastic cause,” Sanders said.
