Not many Bobcats went Uptown to watch Super Bowl 50

Last night was a big night in sports, but not Uptown.

Though Sunday night was one of the largest nights in sports this year, Bobcats didn’t make a large turn out on Court Street.

Many of the people out Sunday night we're surprised at the amount of people that decided — or rather, didn't — to see the Broncos beat the Panthers from a bar stool.

Emily Fisher, an undecided freshman and Aspen, Colorado, native, was rooting for the Broncos in the C.I. Sunday night.

“I’m shocked (at the amount of people out),” Fisher said. “I thought there would be way more people.”

Alex Agra, a junior studying management and management information systems, had no preference on which team brought home the Vince Lombardi trophy, but said he wanted Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning to get a Super Bowl win.

“I was expecting a lot more people to be out just because it’s a big football game and it’s Sunday and it’s OU,” Agra said.

He added that he is happy to be out with his friends.

Marissa Stark, a junior studying communication studies, said she doesn’t really care too much about the game. She was at Courtside Pizza for the social aspect of the night.

“I thought there would be more people out,” Stark said. “Everybody that I’ve talked to doesn’t care about it because it’s not any of our teams.”

Myles Grimond, a resident of Columbus, thought it would be a lot more packed Sunday night but said he still was enjoying his night out with brother whom he was visiting for Ohio University's Sibs Weekend.

Isaac Callion, an OU alumnus, was underwhelmed with the turnout on Sunday night and was hoping for the Panthers to win.

“It’s Cam Newton, he’s dabbing on them folks all the way,” Callion said. “Plus, Cam Newton, I just feel like he’s a baller player.”

Katie Olding, a sophomore studying communication studies and sport management, was rooting for the Panthers at The Crystal due to a family connection.

“My uncle has $4,000 on the game,” Olding said. “I’m not a Charlotte fan, but now I am because all this money is on the line.”

Olding added that the Cincinnati Bengals should have been in the Super Bowl instead.

“Mark my word, right now, the Bengals will be in the Super Bowl next year,” she said. “I guarantee it.”
