Christina Hoff Sommers is speaking at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Galbreath Chapel.
It is fairly obvious to most that Ohio University and Athens is, like many other college campuses and towns, noticeably liberal in its social and political views. This liberalism in the Athens community and campus can be seen in a variety of forms, but especially in the commonplace of student activism with the notable rise of far-left organizations such as Black Lives Matter and F--k Rape Culture.
However, on Tuesday, Feb. 16, Christina Hoff Sommers will be speaking with a more conservative voice on many subjects that Ohio University students are quite familiar with, but perhaps have not heard (or even considered there being) the other side of.
Dr. Sommers is a critic of modern feminism and has authored The War on Boys and Who Stole Feminism. Her lecture will cover “trigger warnings, safe spaces and moral-panics” and will be in Galbreath Chapel at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16. This talk will be a great opportunity for students to listen to and ask questions about this position, which is rare in this area and controversial across the nation.
Note: I am not affiliated with any organization that planned or paid for Dr. Sommer’s lecture, I am simply a fan of Dr. Sommer’s work and an advocate of bipartisan discussion of political and social issues.
Corbin Curtis is a sophomore studying English at Ohio University.
