Staying in Athens this spring break? Check out these activities for a fun time.
Spring break is less than a week away: time to get excited. Some Bobcats are heading to tropical locations this spring break and others travel back to their hometown. For some, spring break means hanging in a student-less Athens. Here are five things to do for a fun "staycation" here in A-town:
Get outdoorsy
For some students the most time they spend outside is the trek from class to class while Athens County offers endless outdoor activities. So lace up your hiking boots, grab your kayak and explore Hocking Hills, Strouds Run State Park or countless other parks and hiking trails.
Befriend a local (it’s true, not everyone in Athens is affiliated with OU)
Hit up some local hangouts and see how Athens really is when OU students are out of town. You may find that just because your friends have gone away from spring break doesn’t mean you have to be lonely.
Stock up on fest gear
When spring break ends, fest season will be in full swing. With fest season comes fest attire. Check out local stores before crowds and find the perfect retro jersey, fanny pack and neon hat combination.
Cross something off your Athens bucket list
Have you been meaning to check out that restaurant you’ve always heard about or see a movie at The Athena with just "me, myself and I?" You have nine days to fill with new Athens experiences so go out and start checking off boxes on the list of things to do before graduation.
Go to the empty bars
With students clearing off campus, bars on Court Street will also be low key during spring break. So you can turn out, turn up and not turn around due to long lines.
Not-so-honorable Mention
Catch up on school work. 'Nuff said.
