Courtside Pizza reopened after closing for renovations and a suspended liquor license.
After about a month of being closed, Courtside Pizza will now be serving out slices of pizza and beer to hungry and thirsty Ohio University students once again.
Courtside Pizza, located at 85 N. Court St., opened up again Sunday after closing its doors in early January. The bar closed to perform renovations after its liquor license was suspended Jan. 7, according to a previous Post report.
Some renovations include new bathrooms, a remodeled kitchen, new furnishing, revamped lighting and a different layout due to a wall that was repositioned, David Cornwell, the owner of the bar, said.
Cornwell said even though the renovations went over budget, it was worth it.
“Kids are going to be excited,” he said. “Whoever comes here is going to be excited.”
Sam Cross, a fifth-year senior studying applied nutrition dietetics, said she likes the new changes.
“I think it will be more effective,” Cross said. “They can get more people in and out of here with pizza.”
Drew Gainey, a junior studying accounting, said the new atmosphere looks cleaner.
“I think it’s pretty cool,” Gainey said. “They told me they will sell pizza by the slice a lot so that’s good for drunk people.”
Nate Tarr, a manager at Courtside, said he thinks the renovations are "awesome" and that it’s almost a completely new bar.
Cross added that she thinks people will enjoy the bar.
“I think one of the cool things about OU is that everything has so much history,” Cross said. “So I think it’s cool that we are living in it. When we come back, like after we graduate, I think it will be really cool cause we’ll remember when this happened.”

Cornwell added that the goal was for the bar to reopen for the Super Bowl but isn’t planning on having a special event.
“It’s still Courtside,” Cornwell said. “It’s totally different, but yet it’s still Courtside.”
