As Ohio University reaches the week before spring break, Casa Nueva will shut down to do some quick renovations and clean-up to its look from Feb. 21 to Feb. 25.
“We’re not doing anything that would change Casa,” Nicole Iker, president of the board of directors at Casa Nueva, said. “We are going to re-polish our floors and our bar and some deep cleaning.”
Iker said every now and then Casa closes down to do quick fixes, and this year’s renovation would also include “some paint touch-ups.”
Kendall Merrill, a sophomore studying English, said she loves Casa’s food and goes there at least once a week.
“It’s going to be hard to be away from Casa on Wednesday night,” Merrill said “It is so fun, and I go to open mic night every week.”
Casa Nueva serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is one of Athens’ largest venues for art shows and live music.
Merrill will miss its chimichangas and guacamole when the venue is closed, she said.
“Casa is perfect the way it is,” she said. “Their guacamole is bomb.”
