The Survivor Advocacy Program, located in Lindley Hall room 033, closed temporarily and is searching for an interim advocate.

Ohio University president saw raise; OU named top party school by Playboy during Fall Semester

From faculty resignations, to a fraternity investigation and a Playboy party school ranking, Ohio University had a busy Fall Semester.

Fall Semester is in the books at Ohio University, during which faculty resigned, the survivor advocacy program temporarily shut down and a fraternity is undergoing investigation.

OU President Roderick McDavis receives raise

OU President Roderick McDavis saw a $15,000 raise as the Fall Semester started.

McDavis’ salary now totals $480,000, compared to the $465,000 he made during the last academic year, not including benefits, according to a previous Post report.

The Board of Trustees approved the raise at the Aug. 27 Board of Trustee meeting in Dublin, as well as a $90,000 bonus for OU’s 20th president.

Both McDavis and his wife, Deborah, saw a 3.2 percent raise, leaving her annual salary at $36,150.

Together, they make more than a half of a million dollars annually.

Recommend tuition increase

As Fall Semester came to close Dec. 11, OU’s budget planning council voted to recommend a tuition increase of 1.7 percent for next year’s incoming freshmen in a closed door meeting, according to a previous Post report.

If approved, it would the seventh consecutive year tuition is increased for the freshman class.

OUSAP

The OU Survivor Advocacy Program remained temporarily closed at the end of Fall Semester.

Delaney Anderson, the former program coordinator for OUSAP, left the university Oct. 16 after taking a job outside of OU. Anderson, whose annual salary was $37,230, worked at OUSAP for less than a year and informed OU officials of her departure Sept. 29. She was a confidential source and her absence left OUSAP without a licensed and credentialed program coordinator.

The interim OUSAP advoacte job was posted to ohiouniversityjobs.com on Nov.11, and originally applicants had until Nov. 27 to apply for the job.

The job deadline was extended until Dec. 15, and as of Nov. 23, four applicants had applied to the position.

OUSAP temporarily closed Nov. 16 and has yet to reopen. No staff are working out of the OUSAP offices and its 24/7 hotline isn’t functioning.

Alicia Chavira-Prado, a special assistant to the vice provost for Diversity and Inclusion, had previously provided administrative leadership to OUSAP. However, Chavira-Prado was not a confidential source and did not have a role in the advocacy services.

Acacia

OU’s chapter of Acacia is being investigated by both the university and the fraternity’s headquarters in the wake of a video of a sexually explicit song that was posted to social media, according to a previous Post report.

On Oct. 30, OU opened its investigation, and the Acacia chapter was issued a "directive to immediately cease and desist all organizational activity" while the investigation continued.

A preliminary investigation by the university indicated members of Acacia were the men in the video, which was shot by a Post staff member Oct. 28. In the video, men appear to sing the phrases, "Send nudes, don't let me down. Take my soft dick and make it harder," to the tune of "Hey Jude" by The Beatles.

The Acacia members were singing to Alpha Delta Pi sorority members on the front steps of the sorority chapter’s house on South Court Street, near Baker Center.

As of Monday, OU’s investigation into the fraternity continues, OU spokesman Dan Pittman said.

#1 Playboy School

OU was named Playboy'stop party school for 2015.

The magazine cited the Athens Halloween Block Party, the 18 bars on Court Street and the series of springtime fests as reasoning for OU’s top ranking, according to a previous Post report.

Title IX

OU’s Title IX Coordinator Inya Baiye resigned from her position Nov. 4.

Baiye, whose salary was $100,000 for the 2015-16 academic year, accepted a job at the University of North Texas, according to a previous Post report. She had worked at OU since Oct. 17, 2011 and became the Title IX Coordinator on July 1.

In the wake of Baiye’s departure, the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost will start a search to find an executive director of the Office of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Accessibility in late fall 2016.

Nicholas Oleksy, a Title IX investigator in the Office of Equity and Civil Rights Compliance, will take on the role of acting Title IX coordinator for the student process until the position is filled.

Assistant Director of Civil Rights Compliance Jessica Cook will take over the administrative leadership of the office and will serve as interim Title IX coordinator for employee and university programs.

In addition, Assistant Director Kerri Griffin will support the compliance office with discrimination and harassment cases, and Dianne Bouvier, director of the Office of Equal Opportunity and Accessibility and ADA/504 coordinator, will provide consultation.
