Athens City Councilman Steve Patterson, D-At Large, will be sworn in as mayor on Dec. 21 in a public ceremony at the Athens City Building.
Despite having had a Twitter handle reading "@MayorPatterson" since February, Athens City Councilman Steve Patterson has not officially taken office.
During a ceremony Monday, his title will become official when he is sworn in as the 43rd mayor of Athens, according to a city news release.
Athens Law Director Lisa Eliason will conduct the ceremony 11 a.m. in the Athens City Council chambers, which are in the Athens City Building at 8 E. Washington St.
The community is welcome to attend the ceremony.
Patterson has served four years as a city council member after initially being elected in 2011.
