Speakers included President Roderick McDavis and Distinguished Ohio University Professor of Playwriting Charles Smith.
About 650 Bobcats walked across the stage and received diplomas Saturday as part of Ohio University’s first fall commencement ceremony since the 1960s, according to a university news release.
The ceremony, which took place at the Convocation Center, graduated fewer students than this year’s spring commencement, when 3,277 undergraduates crossed the stage, according to a previous Post report.
Some of those in attendance took to social media using the hashtag #OHIOgrad2015.

OU President Roderick McDavis and Charles Smith, a distinguished professor of theater, gave speeches to the audience, advising the class of 2015.
McDavis told the graduates the new chapter of their lives starts today.
“As with any new beginning, this is both thrilling and terrifying. Rest assured, we have equipped you well for the journey ahead,” McDavis said. “Your presence here today is proof that you possess the knowledge to excel in your chosen fields.”

According to the news release, Smith advised graduates to avoid becoming part of the "status quo."
“If you understand that your individual voice and vision are unique and if you listen carefully to the collective consciousness of our world, then process it through your filter of experience and education. What you say will be something new that will not fit into the world. It will, in effect, change the world,” Smith said. “That's what I'm asking you to do: Go out and change the world.”
Congrats mom! You worked so incredibly hard for this and we are so proud of you!
