Ohio would lose in the first semifinal for the MAC tournament against Kent State.
As Robert Frost writes in his poem, “Nothing Gold Can Stay,” it’s hard to have a good thing going for a sustained amount of time.
It’s seen in sports all the time, and for Ohio this sentiment is no different.
Ohio lost 2-1 to Kent State on Friday in the Mid-American Conference semifinal round of the MAC tournament to end its season.
“It was a tough one today," coach Neil Macmillan said. "Very disappointed with how it went. I thought we did a great job with executing the game plan."
Macmillan said the Bobcats played “exceptionally well” in the second half to rally back, as sophomore Rachel Kho scored her second goal of the season to give the Bobcats their lone goal of the game.
Although Ohio’s season was one filled with inconsistent play, the loss signals the end of seniors Adele Sammons and Clarissa Leickly careers — two of Ohio's most consistent play.
Both had career seasons with Sammons being named MAC Offensive Player of the Week in October and being selected to play in the NFCHA Division 1 Senior Game. Sammons was also named to the All-MAC First Team.
Leickly was selected to the All-MAC second team while tallying a career-high six goals on the season. She also led the team with a career-high 47 shots, with a career-high 28 being on goal.
"Both had excellent seasons," Macmillan said. "I think it was really exciting to see Clarissa get recognition from the other coaches within the MAC. Adele exhibited great skill this season and proved to be one of the top players in the conference this year.”

Ohio played some of its best field hockey during its three-game win streak early in the season, but with key seniors leaving, coupled with a four-game slide at the end of the season, too much of a good thing can be of detriment to any team.
"One of the exciting things going into next year is that we've got a great depth of talent here and an offseason to develop that," Macmillan said. "Excited for the future, and we have the offseason to develop and work on our skill and overall gameplay and fitness. Those are the things that are going to help us over the next season."
