After the first day of the MAC Fall Preview, The Bobcats are in ninth place out of 13 teams.
While Mid-American Conference teams have been a thorn in the Bobcats side all season, Ohio's youth is stepping up and providing quality scores.
At the end of the first day of the MAC Fall Preview, Ohio shot 51 over par for a two round score of 627. The Bobcats sit in ninth place out of 13 teams, placing higher than only one MAC team, 12th place Central Michigan.
As the Bobcats begin their final tournament of the fall portion of their season, it could be apparent that it will take work in the short offseason to repeat as top five finishers in the MAC Championship come April.
The conference's Fall Preview marks the end of the first portion of the Bobcat's season, as the remaining half of the golf season picks up again in February. Through 36 holes, Eastern Michigan leads the pack by shooting 22 over par for a score of 598.
All season long, the Bobcats have had trouble with other MAC teams; they have only been able to finish higher than three of their conference rivals. The Bobcats have faced MAC teams a total of 17 times in their four tournaments this season. So far, the Bobcats have been able to beat out Central Michigan, Ball State and Bowling Green a total of six times.
The Bobcats finished fourth in the MAC last season and head coach Kelly Ovington is confident her team has what it takes to do it again.
“We’ve got a solid team, and it’s deep, and we can definitely beat them, but it’s just putting it all together,” Ovington said.
After 36 holes, sophomore Lily Pendy is only ten shots over par for a score of 154. Although Pendy leads the Bobcats through two rounds, she sits in 27th place in the tournament. In the second round, Pendy sunk the Bobcats first eagle of the season.
Freshman Emily Hughes sits in 35th place after shooting just 11 over par for a day one score of 155. The final round of the MAC Fall Preview tees off Monday Oct. 12 at 9 a.m.
