Ohio junior outside hitter Mallory Salis (#6) goes up for a kill against Miami during their MAC game at The Convo.

Volleyball: Ohio sweeps Eastern Michigan, finishes 2-0 on road trip

The Bobcats take down the Eagles in three straight sets (25-21, 25-23 and 25-19) and have won nine of their last ten matches.

Ohio swept Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Michigan Saturday night — 25-21, 25-23, 25-19 — and marked its third consecutive season of starting off 4-0 in Mid-American Conference play.

The Bobcats (14-3, 4-0 MAC) won their second game in three straight sets this weekend, but the contest in Michigan was closer than the final score portrays.

The Eagles put up quite a battle in the second set, which featured 10 total ties and multiple lead changes. At one point, Ohio was down 23-21 in that set, yet the turnaround for Ohio was just enough to swing momentum its way toward a  sweep.

“We’re thankful to get another conference road win tonight,” Ohio coach Deane Webb said. “I wasn’t pleased with our defense, but we were good enough offensively to earn the win.”

Redshirt freshman Katie Nelson led the team with 10 kills and four block assists on the night — the first time Nelson recorded double digit kills in her career.

Senior Shelby Walker and sophomore Jaime Kosiorek both recorded nine kills to the Bobcat attack and senior Abby Gilleland added her ninth double-double performance on the season. Gilleland has 107 double-doubles in her career.

Although Ohio has won nine of its last ten, Webb said there are quite a few things his players need to improve on before next weekend.

Ohio will take on two more MAC foes on the road with matches against Akron on Friday and Buffalo on Saturday, both 7 p.m. starts.
