The Weekender: Do you have your Halloween costume yet?

Have you picked out your costume for HallOUween? If you haven't picked out your costume yet, you could make a day of it by going to thrift stores and costume shops with a friend. Popular destinations include Athens Underground and Uptown Costumes, both of which are located on Court Street. Honey is a new option on West Union Street for those who are feeling a bit more adventurous.


Post Modern: Under the Food and Drug Administration’s guidelines, if a man has engaged in sexual relations with another man — even once — since 1977, the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in the United States, he is ineligible to donate blood for life.

In May, the FDA proposed an amendment to the ban, recommending that gay men could donate so long as it had been 12 months since they had oral or anal sex with a man, with or without a condom. The process to change this ban is still underway. (Link)


Pinocchio: Pinocchio’s less than honest antics take a back seat to Geppetto’s side of the story in the ABC Players upcoming performance of Disney’s My Son Pinocchio: Geppetto’s Musical Tale. (Link)

Social Justice Series: The month-long celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act is continuing Friday with a screening of a film that focuses on the disability rights movement and some of the people behind it. (Link)

DJ Cle-OH: Christopher “DJ Cle-OH” Johnson is the third generation of DJs in his family. Johnson transferred to Ohio University at the start of the 2014-15 academic year from Baldwin Wallace University, and one of the huge reasons for doing so, he said, was the gigs for DJs in Athens, such as the Delta Zeta Bid Day in 2010 and 2012. BBQ Festival: Public Square in Nelsonville will be sizzling this weekend, as it hosts the 19th annual Ohio Smoked Meat and BBQ Festival. Being a competition, competitors can’t just give out samples. However, there are a great number of vendors and other attractions sure to keep one busy. (Link)
