John Hyland, 20, was arrested in his hometown Sunday in conjunction with a rape that occurred in Bromley Hall on Oct. 3.
A suspect in an Ohio University Police Department rape case was arrested Sunday, marking the second arrest for a sex-related crime reported to OUPD this semester, according to an Ohio University news release.
Nine sex-related crimes have been reported to OUPD since the start of classes Aug. 24.
Rocky River Police Department picked up suspect John P. Hyland, 20, in his hometown outside of Cleveland on Sunday after OUPD obtained a warrant for his arrest Friday, according to the release.

Hyland, who had been previously identified by the survivor, was charged with one count of rape and is currently being held in Rocky River on a $100,000 bond.
The penalty for rape, a first-degree felony, is a maximum of 11 years in prison.
According to OUPD records, a female OU student reported the rape to the department Saturday, Sept. 26.
The rape, which took place in Bromley Hall, occurred at 3:33 a.m. that morning, according to the report.
Hyland, who is not an OU student and was a guest staying in the female’s room, was reported to have engaged in sexual intercourse without consent while she was sleeping, according to the news release.
A court date has not been set as of press time, according to Rocky River Municipal Court’s website and the Athens Municipal Court website.
This was the third alleged rape this semester, but was the first case in which an arrest was made.
OUPD made an arrest in one other reported sex-crime this semester, according to a previous Post report.
On Sept. 9, OUPD arrested a former OU basketball player on charges of gross sexual imposition, a fourth-degree felony, according to previous Post reports. Charges were later dropped on Sept. 14.
