Letter: New group, askPenny, to help women in Southeast Ohio explore options for unintended pregnancies, no religion attached

One resident of Athens highlights where women can go for abortion options in this part of the state.

Dear community members,

I would like to bring to your attention that access to abortion in Southeast Ohio is extremely limited, as well as Ohio at large. Recently a group has formed to help women explore options for unintended pregnancy. This group is called askPenny. Unlike the pregnancy resource centers that are popping up all over Ohio, askPenny has no moral or religious or personal objective of what a woman may choose (often these pregnancy resource centers have religious beliefs that stop them from referring or advising women about abortions).

AskPenny has a list of reproductive health clinics around Southeast Ohio, as well as a list of all active abortion clinics in Ohio. If you or someone you know is in need of reproductive health care or needs an open, caring ear, please contact askPenny. AskPenny can also help one find rides to these services. Find askPenny on Facebook (Penny Royal) or call 740-273-1716. You may reach askPenny through email as well at askpennyroyal@gmail.com.

Penny Royal is an Athens resident.
