Rape suspect John Hyland will appear in Municipal Court on Tuesday.
Though 11 sex-related crimes have been reported to the Ohio University Police Department this semester, only one suspect is slated to appear in court so far.
John Hyland, who was arrested Oct. 4 for allegedly raping an Ohio University student in Bromley Hall, will appear in front of Judge William Grim in the Athens County Municipal Court at 2 p.m. Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.
After being identified by the victim, Hyland, a Rocky River resident, faces one charge of rape, which is a first-degree felony with a maximum sentence of 11 years in prison.

According to OUPD records, a female OU student reported the rape occurred Sept. 26 at about 3:33 a.m.
Hyland, who was a guest staying in the female’s room, allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse without her consent while she was sleeping, according to OUPD reports.
Grim ordered that Hyland have no contact with the victim during his arraignment on Oct. 5, according to court documents.
