Women's Golf: Ohio sits at 8th place after day one of Cardinal Classic

The Bobcats finish their first day of the Cardinal Classic with a score of 614 (+38). Senior Angela Codian leads the Bobcats at 23rd place.

At the end of the first round of the Cardinal Classic, Ohio Women's Golf finished in eighth place out of 16 teams with a team score of 614 through 36 holes. The Bobcats shot a combined 38 over par. 

Eastern Kentucky holds a demanding lead over the rest of the field after shooting four under par for a team score of 572. The tournament is held in Yorktown, Indiana and runs 6,204 yards with a par of 72.

After the first day, senior captain Angela Codian tied for 23rd place after shooting eight over par. This is Codian's first time placing under 40th overall all season.

Behind Codian, sophomore Lily Pendy placed 27th, shooting nine over par on the day. Junior Hailey Hrynewich finished the day shooting ten over par for a score of 154.

Although having one of the highest scores on the team, freshman Emily Hughes has averaged 2.83 strokes on par three holes. While shooting eleven over par for a score of 155, Hughes has been the Bobcats' best shooter on par three holes so far in the tournament.

At the end of the first day, the Bobcats have the third fewest birdies (12) by any team in the tournament, and although they haven’t been able to convert for birdie, the Bobcats have been able to sink their shots for par.

The Bobcats have the third most shots for par as a team with a total of 113.

The final round of the Cardinal Classic tees off Tuesday at 9 a.m.
