Ohio sweeps LSU in straight sets 25-19, 25-19, 25-16 in its first match of the Bobcat Invitational.
Ohio took down its second Southeastern Conference opponent this week with a victory against LSU — 25-19, 25-19 and 25-16 — in its first match of the Bobcat Invitational.
Leading the attack for Ohio was sophomore Jaime Kosiorek who tallied 13 kills and added 11 digs defensively.
“(Kosiorek) went from being ‘a’ kid to being ‘the’ kid this year and that’s a big adjustment,” coach Deane Webb said. “Everybody has their own early season things they have to get through, and for her it’s just finding that rhythm. She took good strides today.”
Senior Abby Gilleland provided 34 assists to her teammates, in addition to nine digs.
“Abby’s always going to get her numbers, she’s a great player obviously,” Webb said. “Today (for her), the balance was so much better. That was key: People were getting better looks in better situations.”
Webb was also pleased with the way junior Mallory Salis balanced the offense with her attack from the back row. Salis returned to action after sitting out to rest Tuesday against Kentucky.
Looking like the Bobcats serving specialist, redshirt junior Aubree Hord was mixed efficiently into the rotation throughout the three sets to give the Tigers a tough look off the service.
Cati Leak was the top LSU performer of the afternoon, as she totaled seven kills and 11 digs for the Tigers.
The Bobcats (3-1) will continue play in the invitational against Xavier (2-2) Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in The Convo.
Ohio will unveil its 2014-15 Mid-American Conference regular season championship banner before the match.
