Editorial: OU ranks high on several lists, not just party school ones

OU ranks high on multiple lists and many of them have nothing to do with partying.

For the first time, Ohio University has found itself situated in the penthouse of Playboy’s “Top Party Schools” list.

The ranking dubbed Athens “a barhopper’s dream” and attributed the number of bars lining Court Street and Ohio’s statewide decriminalization of marijuana possession as two reasons for the first-place position.

Number Fest was also cited by the publication as part of the reason for OU’s top spot on the list.

It’s also interesting to note that just last month, The Princeton Review ranked OU as 16th on its top party school list.

It’s no secret that Bobcats party, and party hard, but students are also doing some amazing work on campus that doesn’t include street fests.

OU’s hockey team, which is not a university-recognized varsity sport and does not receive any funding from the university’s athletic department, is considered one of the best hockey teams in the nation.

Collegemagazine.com ranked OU fifth on its list of top vegan-friendly college campuses in early 2015. That particular ranking cites the dining halls, which now includes renovated West Green Market District, as excellent places for students who live a vegan lifestyle to eat. The entry also cites Kroger on East State Street as a great location for vegan food.

OU’s Schey Sales Centre was recognized by The Sales Education Foundation in late April as one of the best schools for sales training. Schools included in the list had to meet requirements for internships and course offerings, among others. The university was listed as a donor on the foundation’s site, but insisted that its donation had no bearing on the ranking.

The College of Health Sciences and Professions’ RN to BSN online program was ranked fifth in the nation on the 2015 list by Best College Reviews. Those particular rankings were based on academics, flexibility and affordability.

Party on, Bobcats, but also get excited when OU tops other lists.
