The Ohio University Police Department is working to solve a series of thefts involving stolen elevator lightbulbs from Bromley's elevators.
When it comes to theft, many parents, Ohio University students and officials warn individuals to keep an eye on laptops and valuables.
But at Bromley Hall, pilfering of another sort of item is allegedly more prevalent. The target? Lightbulbs.
The Ohio University Police Department received a theft report late this week of 12 lightbulbs being taken from Bromley's elevator. According to OUPD records, the bulbs were taken from elevators one and three and then discarded on the fifth floor of the residence hall.
In an email to Bromley residents entitled "Dear elevator lightbulb thieves, please stop," Bromley Hall Residence Director Cathy Murphy said the bulbs had been replaced daily due to the thefts.
"Stealing the elevator light bulbs is not amusing or appreciated," Murphy said in the email.
Murphy added that the bulbs are suppose to last multiple years and the students stealing the bulbs were wasting money because of the replacements.
Murphy detailed that the lightbulb theft had put other students at risk for injury, as well as inconvenienced students with mobility issues.
One Bromley resident, Julianna Hausman, told The Post "I had to turn on my phone light because it was so dark" in the elevator.
The sophomore studying early childhood education said she wasn't very amused.
"I just think it's a little immature," Hausman said.

According to Murphy's email, elevators had to be shut off daily to replace the bulbs.
The email warned residents of an increase in OUPD officers patrolling the building, who will escort students to the elevator late at night.
OUPD is investigating the thefts.
