Former Bobcat DJ Cooper to play in Russia

DJ Cooper has signed a contract with a professional basketball team in Russia.

After two stints in Athens — both in Greece and Ohio — DJ Cooper has moved on.

The former Bobcat guard has signed with Krasny Oktyabr, a professional basketball club in Volgograd, Russia.

Cooper, who previously played for Panathinaikos in Greece, joined “Red October” on Aug. 1, according to the organization’s Twitter account.

Among his accomplishments at Ohio, he became the first player in NCAA history to record 2,000 points, 900 assists, 600 rebounds and 300 steals.

Cooper graduated in 2013, and was a member of the Sweet Sixteen team in 2012.

Earlier in the summer there were links to a Western Conference NBA team for Cooper, but that rumor never gained strong traction.
