This flu season Hudson Health Center is offering flu shots to students.

Help centers assist students with academic, personal needs

Some of the centers include the Survivor Advocacy Program for victims of sexual assault and the Academic Advancement Center for tutoring and academic assistance.

From help when a laptop crashes the night before an exam or even just a little extra academic assistance, Ohio University offers a variety of services throughout campus that can help you.

Here are some of the key places to find assistance for whatever circumstance:

Allen Student Advising Center: The center offers walk-in advising for any student who might be struggling. It has academic coaching for any student, support for first-generation students and academic success workshops, among other services.

“We’re a place to go when students have a question, and they’re not sure where to go,” said Angela Lash, assistant director of the Allen Student Advising Center. “We’re a great first start to help make the transition to college. There’s no question that’s not appropriate to come in and ask.”

Career and Leadership Development Center: Located on the fifth floor of Baker University Center, the center offers resume services and professional help to prepare students for job application and careers. The center also hosts career and internship fairs, as well as etiquette dinners and mock interviews. Office hours for the center are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and drop-in hours are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bobcat Depot: When a laptop crashes, visit in-store tech support at Bobcat Depot for help with all things technology. Visit the bottom floor of Baker Center and go to the back left corner of Bobcat Depot for tech support.

Campus Care: This is the main go-to on campus if students get sick or injured. Students don’t have to be under the university’s health insurance program to receive services from Campus Care. Campus Quick Care is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. It is closed Saturday.

Counseling and Psychological Services: The center offers a 24/7 crisis intervention service. Students can also go for mental health services or help with adjusting to college. Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and drop-in hours are Monday through Friday from 9:45 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. Counseling and Psychological Services and Campus Care are two centers located in Hudson Health Center on North Green.

OU Survivor Advocacy Program: Survivors of sexual assault can seek out support services at OUSAP.

“OUSAP is a confidential program that provides support and advocacy to campus survivors of sexual assault, dating/domestic violence and stalking,” said Delaney Anderson, program coordinator for OU’s Survivor Advocacy Program, in an email. “We can provide support in medical, legal and institutional settings, while also offering crisis intervention services. OUSAP can also provide appropriate referrals and resources.”

All information disclosed to someone in the program remains anonymous, which is not the case if any form of sexual misconduct is reported to a mandatory reporter, such as a professor or a Resident Assistant. The program will relocate to Lindley Hall in August, where it will have a new, more private office space.

Academic Advancement Center: The center is located on the first floor of Alden Library and houses tutoring services. Students can go there for academic help, and the center offers free services, such as the Math and Science Center and Supplemental Instruction. Students can also seek help from private tutors, and sessions cost about $10 per each hour.

“We have a service on our website called TutorTrac, which is what we use to schedule all of our tutoring,” said Tiffany Hedges, assistant director of tutoring services. “It actually preloads in the student’s schedule.”

Hedges added that the Academic Advancement Center is continuing to try to add new services to help students.

“We are exploring options of expanding hours because we do know that students have requests that are unique,” she said.
