Crimes of the month find theme of break-ins and theft

The Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous released their list of Crimes of the Month this week.

Athens law enforcement agencies are looking for information about a number of unsolved crimes that occurred since mid-April, including one case of theft at the Ridges and a break-in at Jefferson Market.

Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous released its June 2015 Crimes of the Month this week, which listed several cases of break-ins and theft.

One such incident occurred April 18 when Building 13 of the Ridges was broken into. The building houses galleries and studios for Ohio University art students.

According to the report, one or several individuals broke into the third floor of the building between 1 a.m. and 12 p.m., rummaged through some of the building’s offices and stole items from an art studio.

The Ohio University Police Department is also investigating a break-in at Jefferson Market that occurred the following morning.

Police responded to an alarm April 19 in the Jefferson Market manager’s office at about 5 a.m. Two window panes had been broken in the door leading to the office, but nothing appeared to be stolen.

According to the report, the individual also seemed to have injured him or herself while breaking the glass.

The Athens County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a case involving a lawnmower stolen from Allpower Equipment in April.

According to the report, sometime between April 10 and 24, individuals trespassed onto the property and “forcibly removed” a 2015 Kubota Zero Turn mower.

Athens City Police are investigating the theft of a gray 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck that occurred on April 20.

The vehicle was stolen from the Walmart parking lot on State Street at approximately 12:30 p.m. After the vehicle’s owner parked it there, several individuals approached the vehicle and drove away with it, according to the report.
