Dancing man Zac Oberg has been popping up around campus over the weekend as a way to liven up his duties as a guide for the National Forensic Association’s Speech and Debate Finals
With his lime green T-shirt, portable speaker and lively dancing, Zac Oberg, an Ohio University senior studying games and animation, is hard to miss.
Students might have seen him showing off his moves at various points on campus throughout the weekend.
“I go all over the place,” he said.
As a part of his event management internship, Oberg has been working all weekend as a guide for the National Forensics Association Speech and Debate Finals
The competition, which has drawn teams from across the nation, is taking place over five days on OU’s campus, ending Monday night.
“I’m getting credit hours for this,” he said. “They didn’t know I was going to dance though.”
Oberg’s duties this weekend consisted of directing visitors attending the competition to where they needed to go.
But he said that when he made the decision to take out his portable speakers and start dancing, he received attention from more than just speech and debate competitors.
He said he has decided to move on from one location to another based on when he’s featured on the OU Snapcat account, comparing his appearances and disappearances to a game of “Where’s Waldo.”
“At this point I’m kind of being the mascot (for the event),” he said.
Oberg said he’ll keep dancing until 6:45 p.m. Monday night, when his duties end. Until then, he said he’s enjoyed the attention and support from people on campus.
“That’s one benefit,” he said. “There’s just no negative energy.”
