Students helping clean up Athens pleases residents of the city.
Athens can be, and often is, a community of year-round residents and Ohio University students working for the common good. Such was the case Sunday when hundreds of students and townsfolk worked side-by-side to add a touch of class and beauty to our fair town.
We would like to specifically thank those students who joined us near the roundabout to weed, prune, mulch and rake the various planting beds as well as the area near the entry to the Athens sign on the 682 exit. This area is the entrance and front porch to our community and as such needs to, and should, look neat and welcoming every day of the year. Your enthusiasm for your work, your infectious cooperative energy and your willingness to do anything that was needed served as a shining example of youthful exuberance and its effect on why so many of us have chosen to make Athens our home.
Thanks again to all of the OU students and citizen volunteers who braved the elements to make this year’s Beautification Day a true success. Now, let’s all keep the city and campus looking good.
Alan and Terry Swank are community members living in Athens.
