The election is next week.
How would you help students understand university topics, such as its fixed tuition program, and other university functions?
Mathes: I would help them understand it through my own personal experiences I’ve had working and discussing these things with administrators.
If elected, what would you like to accomplish as an executive board?
Mathes: We’d like to create relationships that are going to last when we leave with the administrative body, as well as with other public universities and their administrative bodies, including members of the Statehouse.

What is one problem Student Senate has that you would like to fix?
Mathes: I think the resolutions were very grandiose statements about what they believed they wanted to get done. I remember them being very critical two years ago when Student Senate would say ‘we have these resolutions and that’s our power,’ and they were like ‘well that means nothing.’

Why are you the best candidate for president?
Mathes: I’m the best candidate for president because I’ve been on Student Senate all my years here. I lost as an independent candidate my junior year and still stuck around because I really want to serve students.
