On Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for Athens County that's set to last from 11 p.m. Thursday to 2 a.m. Saturday.
According to an alert from Alert Athens County, folks should expect about 2 inches of rain during that time period. Small stream flooding and significant rising of "mainstem rivers" is also possible, the email alert states.
By 3:10 p.m. Thursday, Ohio University's Scalia Lab tallied .19 inches of rainfall on West State Street Athens.
Scalia Lab tweeted early Thursday morning that heavy rain was expected in the area Thursday night.
