Tim Korenich, Fluff and Ben Stalets are set to perform with Cinematic, Motown and Americana styles of music at Casa Nueva Thursday night.
Singer-songwriter Tim Korenich claims to be an awful dancer, but he’s considering some dancing if his performance at Casa Nueva on Thursday at 10:30 p.m. gets a little crazy.
“There is going to be a little bit of moving around, but we’ll see how wild Ben Stalets performance gets,” he said with a laugh.
Cinematic music, Motown vibes and the traditional Americana style will be showcased with original music and performances from Stalets, Korenich and Fluff.
Stalets and Korenich, singer-songwriters based in Toledo, are looking forward to playing Casa, 6 W. State St., a venue fitting for their live style of music.
“It’s generally quiet enough that acoustic acts, such as myself, don’t really have a hard time trying to compete with the crowd as far as who is louder,” Stalets said.
Casa creates a different atmosphere compared to the loud house party scene, which is appreciated when playing only with an electric guitar, Korenich said.
“If people are paying attention, it’s pin drop quiet in the room and all eyes are on me. Then it’s a much more intimate performance,” Korenich added.
Korenich, an Ohio university alumnus, released an EP titled “Change of Pace” in September 2014 featuring work from movies produced by video production majors. The soundtrack led to his solo career, Korenich said.
He kicked off a solo tour in late September and made his way around several cities.
“To some people, that might not seem appealing, but it’s kind of interesting when you get to go to a brand new city, not know anything, walk around, see what you can see and maybe not even talk to anyone all day,” Korenich said. “But maybe the first thing you say is you’re singing your songs and playing for people. That’s a lot of fun.”

The music on the EP is “cinematic,” he said, and is mainly movie music, but his new album is giving him the chance to explore new sounds, Korenich said. The newer pieces have a dreamy, Motown vibe with songwriting and guitar work.
Stalets’ original music is strongly based on the traditional Americana style and relate to the different aspects revolving around life experiences.
“I think every new song I write is my favorite song at the time,” Stalets said. “As far as staples go, I think that I wrote this song called ‘Caroline’ about Ohio. That seems to be my most popular song. People usually know the words to it, and I’m pretty proud of that.”
Stalets strives to make every performance a little different from the last. Every song he plays live seems to deviate with every performance, he said.
While both have played at Casa before and are less crazed about the party scene, they’re eager to return to Athens to play and also to eat. Korenich said he’s looking forward to seeing old friends, to eat food from Bagel Street Deli and to drink Donkey Coffee again.
“I love eating Casa’s food,” Stalets said. “I love drinking Jackie O’s beer. … I used to go to Athens a lot as a kid. As I get older, I’d say I’m less of a party animal. But it’s still fun to be in Athens for a day so I can take in whatever is going on around there.”
Fluff is a female solo acoustic singer, who frequently plays at open stages, said Josh Brown, the booking agent at Casa. She will be opening the show.
