Ohio University’s College Republicans “pray for justice” by supporting the decision in the Pat Kelly corruption case
We send our condolences to the Athens County Democratic Party. Their beloved sheriff will soon be behind bars for a very long time. The ADP stood behind Pat Kelly through the 2008 and 2012 elections and continues to stand with him now during a drawn out trial and sentencing process.
Kelly was an upstanding citizen (prior to being found guilty of 12 counts of theft in office, one count of perjury, one count of failure to keep a cashbook, three counts of theft and one count of engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity), and it really is a shame to see him go.
We know what a loved figure Kelly is in the community. The “Justice for Sheriff Kelly” Facebook page has 430 likes, and its members are planning a rally outside the courthouse during Kelly’s sentencing. It might be a little late for sympathy, though. After all, he was already found guilty on a whopping 18 counts.
We also apologize that Kelly duped the entire ADP. In October 2012, at-the-time Athens County Democratic Party Chair Kathy Hecht wrote in an editorial to the Athens News, “I am concerned about having a sheriff, Steve Kane if he would win, who apparently believes that you win at any cost regardless of the fairness of your actions.” Wow, I bet those words are really coming back to bite her. She concluded, “Please vote for fairness, hard work and justice. Vote to keep Sheriff Pat Kelly.”

So, Athens, listen to Hecht. Vote and pray for justice. Pray that after Friday our old, corrupt sheriff is given the punishment he deserves for duping an entire party and stealing from our beloved county.
And as for Auditor Hecht, the Ohio University College Republicans offer our condolences to your credibility and hope that the flowers we have sent to your office help comfort you during this tragic time.
